Have to say, i have no idea what he is (some larger photos would be good) but he's certainly a very handsome lad

"Ok, my dog Ben was a throw back from a dogs home. They almost pushed him onto us, they didnt even do a home check, they just gave hime to us. He was said to be a cross Lab but as he got bigger he began to show some odd traits. He was an exerlant gaurd and after being reminded who was in control he showed signs that he could learn a new trick in seconds. He can say hello and i love you and thank you and please. Really, I ask him to say these things before he can eat and he seems to mimic as best he can. He makes the right sounds with the correct number of sylables. He started to show signs of aggression by the time he was 6 months old and on the advise of our vet we had him done. We now thought we could see a German Shep starting to grow up. He had pointy ears beginning to stand up and was becoming very vocal. Any way, We went to dog training and worked on some of his protective issues and still have not achieved a well mannered dog while of lead. lol. Role on 3 years. Today my daughter was on a web site when she came across the Canaan Dog. We had not really looked at them before but when we did, we were quite shocked to see a dog that is the spitting image of Ben. We looked at the temprerment and so on and found that all that is said about them is the same as I say about Ben. We thought he might have Husky in him because he has no snell to his coat. His ears are rounded at the tip so perhaps he was a cross Lab/German Shep. After looking into the Canaan dog though today, I think I may just have one or at least a very close cross.

I will display some pics, tell me what you think. I can say that his personallity is spot on but judge for your selves on his physical being.

Let me know and feel free to ask me some questions, if you know the answers already you might be able to help me deside if my thoughts are correct.

here are a couple of links to canaan dog sites. look at the tail and the markins? also, if you read the temprement and coat etc i have to say, they could be talking about my dog. You will see why I suspect he could have some in him. He has often been mistaken for a husky of akita cross too.

When I look at Bens ears, they are a little rounded on the tips, this is a trait of the Canaan dog it would seem.

Lisa, I appreciate you wanting your dog to look like a Canaan dog, but he really isnt, he is a crossbreed. The Canaan dog is extremely specialist and its highly unlikey, in fact Id say probably impossible for one, particularly a youngster to end up in rescue.

Be happy for what Ben is, a handsome, well loved pet that will bring you much happiness.

you get me wrong, my dog is my world and i do love him, he is bloody beautiful. i don't even want him to be a Canaan dog really, being a cross whatever means he is unique. i just cant believe how much in common he has with them. I didnt even know they existed till last night. I do however find that there are people who think that they are experts on dog breads when in fact knowing what made a cross is almost impossible. As for dogs in homes? a number of dogs end up in dogs homes all over. I had a Tibetan spaniel from a dogs home some years back, they too are quite rare and he had his papers with him too. Another dog I had not herd of or seen before but, I'm not an expert. Why would I have known about this bread. Still, my question has provoked some food for thought so perhaps people could just look at the links and enjoy the pictures of real Canaan dogs and have a little fun looking up breads he may resemble as a research exercise. I reckon this is a good way to learn more about different breads and what they may have to offer. PS, the only reason I have even asked the question about my boy is because a KC rep with over 20 years of working with the KC asked me if he was a Canaan dog just before she handed us our certificate for his gold good dog award where we train last night. When I said no, she sugested some Akita of Husky perhaps. These are the more common dogs he is mistaken for. Truth is, He's just me Ben. xx Have fun people. Please send me more thoughts on what you see in him. Feel free to ask me questions.

thank you for saying he looks like one, I have found that there are people who think they know more than they do. How can the say he does not look like one. He looks a cross GSD and maybe a Husky and perhaps even more but I think a canaan is also a good look alike. Thank you for noting his looks. You seem to to know what you see.
