Well here in NYC they are pretty cheap (under $50) but you can get more expensiv ones.
Have never seen them in the UK before so thus all the questions.

YOu are so right aout the Pitbull types too. Didnt think of that. Am so used to seeing them allowed here- really lovely dogs and just like staffies, love thie cuddles. lol

Sorry but I think it's unreliable and an undesirable route.

It may be possible to find a DNA marker that is statistically linked to this breed or that but it not what makes the breed and if you wanted you could produce the breed without the marker or you could produce a different breed with the marker. If you select for it, you'll get it.

The use of DNA testing is reliable only in the uses that Borderdawn mentioned. Identification and parent/progeny.

Can't see it being of any use in Pitbull cases in the UK as heritage/parenthood is not an issue. Nobody cares what the provenance is. Only the physicality before the court.

I did the MARS Wisdom Panel Breed DNA test and it was a huge waste of money.
They told me my dog was a beagle/basset hound/CKCS and Husky mix. This is my dog.

COMPLETE RUBBISH! Don't waste your money, at least not on the test from the MARS company.

Don't think pitbulls are identifiable by DNA test anyway.

I've had mine profiled by the KC for identification purposes too. Cost £15 each at the time per dog, but has gone up to £25 now.
