yes agreed in the heat it is just downright cruel

But I have to say it is just really anoying the number of places you cant take dogs these days!!
Was really happy and surprised in the lake district last week I was wondering about, unable to go into shops cos I had Ben and it was too hot to leave him in the car, I saw another sign on a shop door with something to do with dogs on it - was just about to walk by then I read it properly 'dogs welcome here' - so in we trotted and got me a nice pair of shoes!

I totally agree, and that was very rare to see "dogs welcome sign" on a shoe shop.

I agree BMFL - It's ridiculous how many shops don't allow dogs - I still blame society for the reason we have so many unbalanced dogs - it's impossible to socialise them!

My mum always says how rare dog attacks were when she was a child and everyone had mongrels - it's nothing to do with pedigree vs mongrel it's because when she was a child - a dog went everywhere with you.

Anyhoo - off my soapbox...
I completely agree Tracy - to be honest I've never left them in a cool car where I can't see them and if they're just out of sight (like we once went for a meal with family whilst visiting on holiday and I had no choice but to leave them in the car) I go out on a regular basis to make sure they're ok!

doesn't surprise me unfortunately.
I said to Gorden at the weekend it won't be long before it comes on the news that dogs have dies in cars because of owners stupidity and cruelty.
I also wondered how long it would be before one of us came across it.
I had to come downstairs at about 1ish the other morning and leave the back door open for Ollie as it was so hot.
So goodness knows how those poor dogs must feel left in cars.

my grandads Jack Russell is a dog that was left in the heat. He goes to the beach everyday in his car and the same gentleman used to go to work and leave his dog all day in the car! My grandad asked him several times to let the dog out and always got an ear bashing.

Eventually when they left it for hours in the heat he just broke the window and took the dog home with him, as he's old he seems to get away with it! He asked a family to clear up after thier dog a few months ago and they refused, when they went away he got the poo and smeared it all over the car windows!!

He still has the dog, its called Tramp, lovely little thing
I think my grandads got to that point in life where he just does exactly what he likes, he still goes to the same place nearly everyday and takes the dog with him, no idea if the original owner asked for Tramp back but knowing my grandad he wouldn't get him

Its great for the dog though, he gets to go with my grandad shooting all the time and has the run of lots of fields. Much better than being stuck in the back of a car day in day out, and I really do believe my grandad thought the dog would die in that car on of these days.

Not that i would ever do anything like that, i'd be far to worried!

I was amazed the other day I was out with Hannah in the car & needed to pop into a shop so I left all the windows open & the tailgate. Someone came into the shop to tell me to close my tailgate as the dog was barking when people came near the car. I said its too hot but I'm on my way anyway & she stood telling the shopkeeper about people who put their animals before people's feelings

GSD-Sue, you really can't please everyone can you? What a muppet. I mean ok, your dog is barking if people go near your car, but in a car park for a few minutes whilst in a shop, whose feelings are you really going to hurt?!! Much better to make the dog as comfy as poss.
