Do cats fade in sun?

my feral looks washed out; looking at the photo here he looks paler now.

when i had jacobs sheep, i hardly recognised them when they had been shorn. they were back to black and white rather than the rich brown of their fleece in the scarce sun we had there..

I really don't know. I don't think they do, but it's not unfathomable.

I don't think so, my oldest is 16 and is black and white, his black bits are still jet black and his white bits are snow white.
Maybe yours had a roll in the dust.

I do know that people with show horses do take them in before midday on a sunny day during the summer because their coats fade, especially the blacks, so they are normally turned out at tea time and brought in around mid morning.

My dogs have always changed colour slightly in the summer months, going a bit paler and our cats did too. Especially our ginger girl she would go almost blonde by August and back to ginger after her autumn coat came in.

As a child we had a black cat that would lay in a cold frame, and one side of him turned a gingery brown.
