Life ban for neglect

A man has been given a life ban from keeping dogs after he neglected his dog's coat. Seven-year-old lhasa apso, Cindy, was in such a state that her coat was matted and thick with faeces and her eyes were completely covered with matted fur.

Inspector Leanne McPake, of the Scottish SPCA, said that Cindy's owner, 66-year-old Archibald Campbell, “did not understand the care and essential grooming required for this breed”. Campbell received the life ban at Airdrie Sheriff Court for causing unnecessary suffering by failing to provide veterinary attention or grooming, and was fined Ł200.

Cindy was given treatment and grooming and now has a new home.
