Being shouted at for having a "dangerous" dog

Not sure if this is the right place but I am so annoyed by something that happened earlier.

I was on a dog walk with a group of people when a couple walked past with three off lead dogs and two children.

Two of their dogs started to walk over to our group of dogs that were splashing around in a pond.

My STB X started to walk over to them in a friendly way to say hello.

The woman started screaming at me to keep my dangerous dog away from hers and to keep it under control. I called my dog back with no problem but the woman was shrieking about dangerous dogs like mine (I'm assuming because she is a staffy). My husband calmly said that it was friendly and her dogs were reacting in a calm manner. He said that she would know that if she knew anything about dogs.

She shouted that our dog was dangerous and that her husband was a vet (he was with her but didn't say a word) so they could tell how bad our dog was.

I really hope that her husband isn't a vet as it is quite scary to label innocent dogs as dangerous and would he even treat a dog like her if one came to him?

The whole thing was so bizarre and I was quite shaken up by it. Other members of the group were baffled as my dog has never had an issue with another dog and is one of the friendliest ones there.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

No I have not experienced, but there are some stupid people around. Her dogs should not go over to dogs she did not know anyway.

I feel for you. I recently had an incident where a man yelled at me for having a dangerous dog and yes my boy is dangerous hence why he was on lead and muzzled at the time. Right up to the point where the man started yelling he had been fine but once the man raised his voice my boy flipped out.

There's a reason I avoid people now...

Never in my life had somebody speak to me like that about my dogs, how bloody rude, I get the ones who divert away or cross the road but lately have had lots of nice fellow walkers who smile at Samson being a loon when I put him on lead to meet, and leave their dogs off lead to go past, so there are nice people out there honest x x Can't understand how doggy people are so negative to a dog that is playing nicely, you would think they would know when a dog is threatening, so sad

This kind of reaction absolutely makes my blood boil. How dare they speak to you like that. Didn't they notice the two samurai swords, the explosives strapped to your body and the bodies of previous victims slung across your shoulder? Stupid short-sighted people.

I have a neighbour who has a small whippet (little darling) and a two year old child - I swear that if she let go of that child's hand or allowed the child to walk on the pavement my dog would turn into a total demon-dog and gobble the child up - well he might if he took a breather from cat-spotting.

My dog is dog-reactive, he is only allowed offlead and muzzled when the coast is completely clear - a long way from any houses or other dogs, most of the time he is on a very short lead and occasionally he plays ball with his longer lead - a couple enter the field and then somehow manage to squeeze themselves into the hedge as they circumnavigate the field with their little fluffy lap thinggies - eyes fixed on my dog. It just makes me laugh. Again he hasn't actually noticed them.

Alll I can suggest is a thicker skin!

Hi That is really sad,but do you think muzzling your dog sends out the wrong message, could you train using a whistle,so that you both can socialise crystalgirl

Hi I have walked into a situation with my DA dog,a bull type was hanging from a tyre legs off the floor,no sign of the owner, really scared hoping Red would not notice,as he was looking out for squirrels, just going to back out, another dog owner said every day this happens,As I was leaving the park, spotted the owner,I said to him have you lost your dog (knowing full well he hadnt)I said he is in the childrens play area hanging from the tyre, you really should have it on the lead but he made a nasty sign and went back the way he had come, without the dog.crystalgirl

Emma I think I would have just laughed at them I don't see the point in getting stressed by ignorant people.

You poor thing. Total ignorance in that woman's part but you could do without someone shouting things like that. If her husband was a vet he was right not to say anything. She's probably just a loose cannon
