Gyms in bedrooms!

Right, uni gym is annoying me so much, it's just full of rugger ******s who swan around doing weights everywhere, swearing loads etc etc and i'm just trying to not look like mr tickles when im inept at the equipment, however i do really enjoy most of it, so going to start swimming, and thus still getting bang for my membership buck, and running, and thus probably getting cold, and run over, like the last time i went running .

I'd like to set up something in my room too? I dont really have room for proper equipment, or a swiss ball. I was thinking of getting a mat (obviously) some 2.5kg dumbells? would that be heavy enough? and maybe some kettle bells and a medicine ball but i dont know how heavy to go for with them?

God someone must know something bout this?! haha

If you have suitable door frame, I would get one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Total-Upper-...6473325&sr=8-8

And if you want something more comfortable for sit ups, a fold up sit-up bench:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Confidence-F...6473400&sr=1-1

For cardio, an exercise bike. And some hex dumbells and a mini trampoline.

That's what I use anyway

You don't really need any equipment to work out in your room or in your house. I think many people these days are making exercise really boring for themselves.

I instruct bootcamps in parks and we never use anything, except for maybe once in a while pulling out the old rubber bands (but I try to avoid them as I find them boring).
I quite like Jillian Michael's exercise dvd's, cheap and you get good ideas for exercises you need little or no equipment to perform .

As somebody who used to serve in one of her majesty's infantry battalions. I have a pretty good idea on fitness. Well i like to think so lol :P

As has been said you don't actually need equipment. The only bit of equipment you need if you are serious about getting maximum benifits for any type of exercise. And to make sure your not wasting time, because your heart rate isn't in the right zone for your health or performance goals. You need a heart rate monitor watch. You can quite easily get very fit and strong. Just by doing own body weight exercise.

I still keep fit to this day. Using the above information myself.
Look into doing circuit training and jogging will get people fit. Cardio, strenght, stamina, and endurance are all improved using those methods. That is why it is the main stay of the Army...The Army are not into gimmicks and quick fixes. They test methods and equipment. If it doesn't work, it doesn't get adopted. It's that simple.

If you want I can work out a routine with you..

I currently do, Boxing, Circuit training, Plyometrics, Interval training, and jogging.

My next door neighbour has a plethora of 'wonder exercise equipment'. From exercise bike to some stretchy thing you attach to a hook on the wall and some rocker thingy. She does not get enough exercise and has heart issues and the docs have told her to take more regular exercise. Every time they tell her this she seems to go out and buy another bit of equipment, or another exercise DVD or whatever.

I've tried to get her to accompany me on a daily walk with the dog (just one of the walks doesn't have to be the longest one) but she steadfastly refuses to - at one time she even said (when my leg was still bad) 'oh you walk too slow for me' lol! She works in the local charity shop 2 mornings a week - it is just two blocks away and she takes the car and pays to park there.

I heard on Radio4 one day that it is better for keeping fit (not developing muscles, six packs or other specialised stuff) to WALK A MILE A DAY EVERY DAY. And forget going to the gym.

I swim and used to think that was really good exercise but apparently it is not aerobic or weight bearing (specially not the way I swim!) but good for all over tone and helping breathing etc.

People who like to exercise and want to exercise just do - they don't fill the house with equipment.

I'm talking mainly about people like myself, who are over 60. Walking is very good for you and it is free. You just need the motivation. Like my dog - I don't 'feel right' when I haven't been out for a walk.

Well Plyometrics looks interesting - looks a lot more fun than just lugging weight around..

Though I'm not sure it would be a good idea in a bedroom

Plyometrics is fun, I do my boyfriends class on Mondays! We don't use a lot of equipment though, you can do SO much with bodyweight only.

I do Tabata on my bike too.

If you've the room, a hula hoop and skipping rope are a great fun way to exercise.

With dumbbells, I started very light at 1kg, and when that got too easy got heavier ones - I'm now up to 5kg.
