I will tell him that.. been telling him that for 12 years!!!

I love Macaws...but always thought they are too big for a house.. do they "need" an outside avairy or would being out their cage be enough (can you hear the little cogs of my brain turning!)

Anyway... he has been talking about African Greys.. he works with someone who breeds or used to .. and if you know anything about them too.. I need a question answered..

Also.. I was talking to him about your Macaws a few nights ago.. and went searching for your old handrearing posts.. and came across one of Danni Leigh riding.. there is one of her standing at your front door.. and he said.. "whose front door is that".. and I said.. "her own I would assume".. He stepped a bit closer and said.."OMG I thought that was our Caitlin!"

No they do not have to be in a avairy, we had one indoors for 12 years and she lived quite happy as long as she had out time, so a large cage is fine for a macaw :smt002

all our handreared babies to to their new owners and live indoors

and Danni-Leigh remarked at how much her and Caitlin looked alike too

i know abit about african greys

OK..

The African Grey person.... has been telling hubby that his female is worth thousands of pounds and is very rare and that he has the only one in Scotland.. and he has been told not to take it to shows or anything as people will try and steal it

So.. is there anything that this bird "might" have that would make it this special?

LOL.. will need to show CJ a pic of Danni Leigh and see if she thinks it's her They do look quite alike...Both gorgeous (biased??YES)

Hmmm large cage.. what sort of large... Do we mean the 5ft tall type ones.. I know Alex could make one but I still have to convince him..

How do Macaws cope with holidays.. either going with or being left with a friend/housesitter?

Glad you have little 1's again jacs.
I bet you can't wait to get them out.....
I am not looking.
I have a grey louise, she was capitive bred and hand raised we paid 550 at 13 weeks old,but i think anything up to 650 is the norm.
I wouldn't pay 1000 for a grey.
She is indoors in a 4ftx5ftx3ft indoor avairy. She is allowed out although she can spread her wings in the avairy.

sorry Louise didnt see your reply yesterday

i dont think you can get rare African greys tbh but i will ask a couple of people i know

if you do buy one dont pay any more than £550-600 for one

the type of cage for a macaw should be this sort of size

holiday wise if you had a travel cage then the bird would LOVE the holiday
but it would be just as happy staying at home with a sitter or maybe going back to the breeder for a holiday (some breeders offer a holiday service)
