I've got a macbook air and can't fault it. I would say buy from Apple and if you have a student in the family you get about 10% off the price as an education discount. They might even be reduced a bit on Friday

Students also get three years warranty (when you buy from Apple)

I have a tiny MBA and love it - it is now my main machine

Wolfwitch, I used to be a self-confessed 'mac hater and windows lover' until yet another windows laptop died, slowed down to snail speed and so forth. After seeing how my sister's laptop (and my dad's apple desktop) seemed to work for years with no problems, and my dad offered to buy me a macbook pro when my laptop died, I went for it and never regretted it.
I've got to say though I'm not an apple convert. I haven't got an iphone or any other apple products. In fact, I have a windows phone that I love
But with the laptop, I'd always stick to the macbook. I've never had any issues with any restrictions. Modern macs are well adapted and run various programs that were initially designed for windows computers.
Actually, my windows phone currently won't syncronise music with my macbook, while I never had problems with blackberries or android phones!

As windows laptops go I replace them with apple, I have a MacBook Air, the original not the recent ones, a MacBook Pro that is from 2009, and an imac, all this after I realised I was spending more time, on computer housekeeping and repairing windows than I actually spent using the computer, I too would like to know what these limitations are, the iPads have now taken over most of the things the computer used to do, but do agree, an ipad would be to limiting for college or university.

Check prices on the online store on Friday, Black Friday deals are usually pretty good, another thing to look at is the online refurb store, these are all factory refurbed and come with the same guarantee as new, only difference is doesn't come in a retail box, but a plain brown box, some have slight cosmetic damage, but have had many of these items in new condition, price reductions are usually very good.

Returns are updated daily so might be worth a look while your waiting for Black Friday.
