You learn something new every day!

Just had a chat to a friend whose dog has been diagnosed with an eating problem - his food is getting into his lungs, causing pneumonia.
The specialist has recommended feeding him in a Bailey Box so she`s getting one made.
Has anyone used one? Any tips on training the dog to get into it?
He`s a slightly manic standard poodle.

I've never heard of food getting into the lungs OR a Bailey's Box & certainly haven't seen a dog getting fed in one of those chairs either. You do learn something new every day!

Poor dog, that sounds awful food getting into the lungs Why does that happen?

I've never seen anything like it before so couldn't help with teaching them to get in it. That dog looks quite content though.
Is there anyway you can contact the person who put it on you tube?
I don't know much about you tube so not sure if its possible, but if it is they would be able to tell you how they done it with thier dog.

Megasophogous (sp) is something that is fairly common in new pups but older dogs can develop it. Because of faulty construction the dog inhales (literally) its food which then can trigger pneumonia and worse.

I would clicker train the sitting up on the floor and feed and then clicker train getting into the chair. It should be fairly simple if the dog is already clicker trained, but if not, it will take some introduce the clicker.

Thank you for sharing the link, although I am very familiar with the condition, I had no idea a piece of equipment had been devised to handle it, most dogs are hand fed very carefully when they have this.

Wow that is very interesting. I have heard of it before, but as SB says I had not realised that someone had created a device to help the dogs eat in this way.
