Thank you all. I will try everything I hate them so much! I just wear flat shoes with a thin sole to drive. The cramps mostly come after the driving and not during.

Malka they wake me up too. Was hopping round in the middle of night in agony

I really feel for you as I suffer VERY badly -mostly at night
I cant find a pattern as to when they come-they just happen

My toes sort of separate and sometimes my whole foot seems to spasm and turn to the right
They are REALLY painful
I also get them in my legs

I usually just put my foot on the floor, but often they start again as soon as I get back in bed

I have very flat feet -didnt know whether that had anything to do with them?
Thank you for all the helpful suggestions and will certainly try them
I dread getting them when Im driving -luckily thats never happened -up to now
Maureen

[With apologies for inserting the missing "m" in "cramps" in your quote ]

Hopping around at night is obviously out of the question for me, hence those anti-cramp pills close to hand. I was rather sceptical as to whether they would work or not so was pleasantly surprised to find that they actually do.

The total worst is when it spreads up the front of your legs as there is only bone nothing to rub
