Diets work if I stick to them and as soon as I go back to my old ways the weight creeps back on. I have learned this the hard way after years of trying to lose weight. Logically, the way to lose weight permanently is to change my lifestyle and/or approach to food...permanently. So I have become a fish eating veggie or pescetarian for about 3 months now and I have slowly lost half a stone without even counting calories. My fruit, veg and toilet roll consumption have all gone up and I never feel hungry. Long may it continue.

I am. I have 80lbs to lose, have lost 7lbs of it so far (it's been 6 weeks I think). I count calories 7 days a week but have one day a week where I don't worry if I'm over as long as I'm not over by thousands. I am not dieting, I am making a change to my eating habits. People tend to come off a diet and go back to the way they used to eat so pile all the weight back on.

I use www.myfitnesspal.com to track mine. Lots of good recipes on there too

Drink lots of water, eat as little processed food as you can.

I'm a member of Slimming World. When you follow it, it does work! If you don't want to join a group, why not join myfitnesspal.com it's free and you can add your food and set a calorie goal, looks really good and easy to use I'm using that (from today) in conjunction with SW so I can lose weight and get healthy.

I like MFP, it's free and is easy to use. Has forums if you want to talk to people and make friends or you can just use the food diary and weight loss part. It sets your calorie goal for you when you put in your weight, desired weight loss, activity level etc. Been pretty spot on for me it seems.

I'm Sezmo83 over there if anyone wants to be friends there.

It seems I made an account about a year ago on there but never remember using it! Will try now

I heard that if you want to lose 1lb a week, you take your weight in lbs, times it by 10, and if you eat that many calories a day you will lose the 1lb a week, and to never go under 1200 calories, MFP is telling me to only eat 1200 calories a day.....

ETA: I love fruit, I like some veg, but prefer fruit. There is 16g of sugar in an apple, and it says I shouldn't have more than 24g in a day

..What am I supposed to eat then?

The thing with MFP is that you're meant to eat any extra calories you gain from exercise back. So if you get 1200 calories per day and then burn 500 calories exercising you eat 1700 calories. There's a thread somewhere on the forums there that explains why you're supposed to do this, something to do with the calorie deficit already being calculated into your calories. I'll see whether I can find it. MFPs food diary gives you your total calories eaten and your NET calories eaten, your NET should never be under 1200.

As for the sugar...a lot of people don't worry about going over if it comes from fruit. It's the not natural sugars they worry about. Others say you shouldn't eat fruit at all Sodium is the big one I find I have to watch, if I consistently go over on that I don't lose anything.
