Jeremy Corbyn...thoughts?

Was idly wondering as to the thoughts of Dogsey members about Jeremy Corbyn - the Member of Parliament for Islington North - who is the surprising front runner for the unenviable position of leader of the Labour Party.
Here is a man who divorced his wife because she "offended his socialist principles" by wanting to send their son to a Grammar School and not as he wished, to the failing local comprehensive.
He held liaisons with Sinn Fein a couple of weeks after the Brighton bombing of the Conservative Party annual conference.
Has championed a plethora of unfashionable causes and has voted against his own party on over 500 occasions.
Was a Columnist for a communist newspaper.
Describes himself as a parsimonious vegetarian!
If the Labour supporters found Messrs Milliband and Brown unpalatable in their lack of success - what can they possibly hope to acheive by the elevation of this particular personage to such a dizzy height?

Hope they vote him in, having sold off our gold reserves, left us with nothing in our piggy banks, I shudder to think what delights he has in store for the country

I think whoever gets it this time around is for the short-term, but Corbyn is suicide for the Labour Party.

My guess is that with the £3 and you can vote option, there will be many Conservatives voting Corbyn

I am not a labour voter but would say Corbyn seems to be sincere in 'his' beliefs, free from 'spin' and he is not tainted by the odious Blair like some of those standing for the leadership.

He may do well in the leadership election but that would be the peak of his popularity. A general election would be a different matter.

Thanks all - must admit that I'm not a Labour voter either, was just fascinated by the mass pressing of the self destruct button that seems to be the current fashion amongst the Socialists. Like Meg, I think that he could well be sincere in "his" beliefs (mind you so was Hitler). His sincerity for me is tainted by the fact that I suspect he is actually quite mad and couldn't be trusted to sit the right way on a lavatory - let alone run the country! lol !
Mind you - their party - their choice, doubt I could be bothered to pay the £3 to make matters just a little bit worse for them. Though the thought had crossed my mind but was quickly discarded, the very next animal charity box I see I will put it in there instead! Some little use may then come of it!
Just as an aside - have you seen the crazy staring eyes on that Yvette Cooper (one of the other choices - their cup runneth over!) must have got like that from the years she has spent being married to that Ed Balls! Bye fer now.

Labour voter here, nice to see the myths about the levels of defecit being souly due to Labour are still being brought by the masses eh! No consideration's to the mess that was left by the tories prior to Blair's reign, or to the fact the lack of bailout of the banks wouldn't have bothered the big international millionaires, but everyday people's savings, pension's etc...
Not really a fan of tongue in cheek comments about them either really, even if I wasn't a Labour voter I fail to see how anyone can mock or take delight in the press lead election demise of a party that essentially wanted to preserve the backbone of what makes our society something to be proud of in the shape of our education system, NHS, welfare and pensions system, living wage etc.
As someone who works in specialist areas of education I can tell you now for free that the tory way is, and by the end of it all, will have, destroyed the opportunities and futures of some entire generations in certain situations.
I've met Corbyn, he's as honest to his own principals and beliefs, and as self disciplined as they come. He seems to be one of the few non champagne socialists left these days, and someone who isn't afraid of being on the left.
I can assure you, having half of my family involved quite deeply within Politics, the powers that be are not seeing his rise to power as an assurance policy that Labour will have shot themselves in the foot, or become unelectable. Hence the innumerable right wing papers attempting to dismantle and dismiss him and his potential. Just as they did a few months ago with the SNP.
I've met and quite like Andy Burnham too, he unfortunately showed himself as a little weak under pressure in some people's eyes, when abstaining from certain recent votes. Which is a shame, I liked him too. But he's very middle ground, and core labour voters, new supporters of labour, and the majority of the under 25's who oppose the current oppressive political climate, don't want middle ground, they want as far removed from certain aspects of our current government as possible.
Irrespective of political stance Corbyn has managed to ignite the fires of political interest in the under 25 voting group which, considering they were the highest figure of non voters and a huge part in the overall outcome of the last general election, should be celebrated wherever you stand.

Fully support you on that LG

It does seem rather odd that just by sending the party £3 you can get on some kind of 'associate membership' list and even stranger that then gives you a vote

"Planet earth calling Luke!"
Well done, Sir, for sticking up for your beloved party, such blind faith must be both a blessing and a curse. Please try not to believe everything they tell you for no good will come of it, I'm sure.
Can tell you are in "specialist education" there are two spelling mistakes in the first sentence alone! Grammar too leaves a lot to be desired as one or two bits don't exactly make perfect sense.
Pay no heed to me though, for I doubt I am fit to teach anybody, anything, anytime.
Chin up dear chap! Try not to let the lack of electoral success blight your existence over the next thirty years or so. One day your lot could get in again - if not - there's always teaching vacancies in Russia, where the loveable left have held sway for generations. Feel sure you'd feel right at home although I am informed by those both better informed and brighter than myself that the system over there is not exactly perfect.
Keep the red flag flying brother Luke.
Bye fer now.
P.S. Oooops! Forgot you don't do "tongue in cheek" or being a Socialist - most other forms of humour either!
Try not to take this to heart - I mean well!
