Training Methods

Do any of you have a favourite training method, anything you have found works like magic. Or may be you have tried something that has failed or even made things worse.

Do you think different dogs/breeds need different methods?

Great Post Thordell.

I use Praise with Rocky cos I figure that's something I'll always have with me! Also I'm not too fussed giving him 'treats' bcos they contain too many additives - he goes hyper after having some PC Smachos things.

I'm keen to try the clicker thing tho as like yourself I am open to all methods, and especially so as we have a Clicker Expert among us! Alison N. Hopefully she will start some lessons 'here' soon.

How about you? What do you do?

Your right, I now prefer clicker training because it allows you to communicate with your dog and with an independent breed like mine it works like a miracle. Have used other methods - well lets face it I have been at it a long time but with most dogs I think the clicker is the way to go

Clicker... i may have to get one of those, no matter how i shout out to Chester in park for him to come back, and my voice goes from nice shouting to angry shouting and it still doesn't work

So then i have to give chase, which is fun... NOT then he finally realises. DOH

Where can you get one? the local pet shop i presume.

Would think you can get them from pet shops if not you can get them on the net. Do get a book to tell you how to use it or if you can go to a trainer who will show you, you can't use them to recall a dog, only to teach it what you require when you shout dog come here :roll

There is a good site that explains it's use will try to find it and let you have the URL

Think you mis-read the rules Joe - not meant to feed the thing to Norman - just use it to express yourself man.
