Moved into an apt with my dog

Hi guys! Recently, I moved into an apartment and brought my dog with me. I have an issue with him not wanting to poop outside, or at all for that matter. I kept telling myself he would go if he absolutely needed to but he still won't. He has never lived in an apartment before and he is used to living in a home with a backyard and being able to run and go freely. I don't know if he still adjusting or what I should do? Any suggestions would be great!

Does he have an outside to go to?
Just anecdotal and for our specific dog.
We have a back garden. Our dog does occasionaly poop there but mostly he does it when we are on a walk with him off lead.

Try putting him on a longer leash and find a place where he has something to go behind to toilet. If he isn't used to 'going' anywhere but a garden/yard, then he may feel a little threatened by it. By trying to find a more secluded spot where he can 'hide' to go, it may help him
