Just read it on Yahoo news.

Very sad but why does every child killed or mauled to death have to have been attacked by a Pitt Bull

Very sad.

Is it illegal to keep pit bulls or just illegal to breed them? I've read this before but can't remember the answer....

This is a link to the rules in simple terms.
So you can own them with restrictions but not breed.

It is only believed to be a pit bull, so who knows what it is. At least it wasn't a rottweiller (sp?) or The Sun would have a field day..... and no doubt will anyway.

P.S I love rotties, lovely dogs, just in case anyone takes offence

We don't actually know it is a pit bull, the papers always use these breeds and in most cases they are crosses, also we don't know the circumstances surrounding the incident. It is tragic when something like this happens and my sympathies go to the family of the child but the media are going to have a field day on this one.

It annoys me when the breed (or supposed breed) involved in these incidents is always given prominence.

Why don't the papers shout 'Unsocialised dog driven over it's tolerance threshold attacks child' which I am sure is frequently the truth .

I am sorry for the child, the family and the dog but it is a sad fact of life that anything in the hands of those who do not understand or respect it can be lethal, this could be one of any number of things a dog and a car included.
