Hi Annie. I don't feed burns and I don't feed raw. I feed Wafcol salmon and potato as prescribed by my vet, but what I will tell you is, Cassie has never left any brown patches on my grass, even when she was fed on another vet. sensitivity control dried food, and yet now that I've got Georgie, my grass has suddenly started getting all the tell-tale brown patches, and yet the bitches are supposed to cause these which Cassie didn't and still doesn't, so perhaps it's not food related at all?

Pc ok, but my "live help" man has had to go and have a lie down in a padded cell I think! Poor Man, he told me to be patient whilst he tried to fix it for me, then gave me a load of instructions and chopped me off!

Hi Annie the brown patches are connected to the Ph balance of your dogs urine, and that is affected by the food you feed. The ideal urine Ph should be slightly acidic with a Ph of 6.4 to 6.6. The staining is normally do to slightly alkaline urine . It is important the balance is correct, if the urine is too acid it cause one type of stone forming crystals, if too alkaline another type thats why I suggested getting the urine tested if it stains the grass excessively in case there is some inbalance that can lead to stones. Different food companies add different things to their food which alters the ph balance of the urine, so some foods cause staining more than others. Burns food aims to get the correct balance ...See this from Burns Foods

Cystitis/Urolithiasis (Crystals in Urine)Struvite is the commonest type of urinary crystal in the dog. Struvite dissolves in the urine so some specialist veterinary diets have calcium sulphate added in order to make the urine acidic. Oxalate crystal formation is fast catching up on struvite. One commercial veterinary diet aims to make the urine alkali whereas another brand aims to keep the urine acid.Urate crystals occur in the Dalmation (and in humans)Burns Real Food works in a different way to prevent cystitis and crystal formation. Burns is formulated to keep the whole system healthy and minimise the amount of waste in the system. This ensures that there are less waste products present in the urine to cause inflammation and form crystals

This is why you should not add things to a dogs food to alter the ph balance to help the lawn unless you speak to the food manufacturers first. Incidently the amonia in a dogs urine is actually a good fertiliser and will make your lawn green if you tip water on as soon as the dog wets.
As regards the BARF diet, I have not researched it but guess if it does not cause staining in must have a neutral ph.
