My Roxy does it as well, she's a 9 year old crossbreed. She's not a dominant dog.

I think there are many reasons for dogs doing it, all individual to the dog

its quite common in small dogs, it may just be a way to make there calling card more noticable,

when you say she pees like a dog though, do you mean she lifts her leg out and up like a male or up and under like most bitches I see that do this?

Tassle will often do it when she is scent marking Mainly covering another dogs mark) - but not always when she is just needing a pee.

My labrador bitch also lifts up her leg for a pee - her nickname is 'Madame'

Haha, my friend's dog Lady always used to do this because all of her doggy friends were boys, and she refused to be left out!

Or she thought she was a boy? Who knows. But she lived until 18 and it never caused her a problem.
