So you don't believe in positive training methods then,I think your ******** by taking the attitude you have, with breeds you have no knowlege about yet are quick to give a reason like they have it in them

I don't need to have a dig you openly admitted on another thread you hit your dogs,I am proud to say NEVER EVER have I hit mine, yet according you you would like a ban on these uncontrollable dogs.
I'm leaving this thread now,you have your opinion what a shame it's been clouded by media reports etc...

your training methods work for you, mine work for me - i have the results to prove it

like i said before we are not going to agree on this - which is fine because obvioulsy both have very different opinions -
but the smacking this has nothing to do with this thread - you mentioned that because u obvioulsly wanted to put me down and make people think my opinion is worthless - its no - and neither is yours

i have listened to peoples opinions for long enough now - and they listen to mine i hope - might not agree but thats fine

pretty childish to put someone down cos you dont agree with their opinion though

as for the dogs - i stand by what i said before - pits and the other 3 banned breeds should stay banned - they were banned those many year ago for a reason - and that reason still stands - the government imo are not doin enough thoug to sort this out and dogs (whether i like the breeds or not - irrelevant) which are not banned suffer for it and the ones that are banned are not punished enough

To be quite honest I can never see the banned breeds ever been taken off the DDA.I don't see the point of it because it doesn't work.
But I still stand by what I say,it's the owners not the breed thats at fault.

BYB also have alot to answer for as they will sell there pups to anyone, and this is how the idiots get hold of certain breeds.
What sort of message was sent out when Ellie's grandmother got away with a manslaughter charge. We need tough harsh penalties applied to ALL dog owners regardless of breed, they need to be responsible for their dogs actions.

i agree

also people wanting to own any breed of dog should have a lisence - and be fined if their dogs escapes etc

all dogs should be chipped or tattooed - and definately tagged etc

There is now. There is a DNA test for 130 breeds which is just being rolled out across vets at America now.
It was created by the Mars Veterinary, a Mars Incorporated (as in Mars Bars), who also own Pedigree.
Its used for crossbreeds.

I know of 2 staffies that are great with other dogs and people.... one(ruby) that goes to the same training classes as me(owner is now a member on here aswell) and one that belongs to a member on here who popped into the training to meet us, She is also a rescue dog.
Both are not just nice with other dogs but great with other dogs aswell as people, Ruby was Kodi's best doggy friend at training when he was little and he still loves her and loves to have a good game of chase with her.

I have never owned a staffie, and probaly never will, I like them but there's other breeds that I love, But All the ones I have met(not going to list all cos that would take a while) have been either good or great with other dogs aswell as people.

I cannot comment on pits as I have never met one in the flesh, But at the end of the day I think prehaps you should do some more research into breeds etc. before coming on here and saying that staffies or any breed should be banned.

i said that they should be banned because - 1. pits are easily passed off as staffies - which is illegal and wrong - people can and have been injured because of this

2. i have witnessed the horror of a staffy/pitbull attacking another dog - not nice - so therefore you may understand why this (and other attacks) have turned me aaginst this breed

also some idiots who breed pits under the name irish blues - seriously -? people like that should be locked up - but no doubt because they arer 'harmless' that ok *rolls eyes*

ask yourself this - why were they banned in the first place?

Pitts were banned by some idiot,Kenneth Baker, and thats exactly what he is,after a spate off dog attacks by different breeds in 1991.
Kenneth Baker who rushed to introduce the DDA did not mention the breeds that have actually killed people in the UK over the past 50 years include a West Highland White Terrier, Golden Retriever and “Jack Russell”.Does that put those breeds on par with Pitts for you Suze?

I believe and so do many others that the legislation is ineffective and has been proved so.Since the introduction of the DDA dog attacks have not decreased and still occur with 85% of them taking place on private property.
The emphasis is placed on the idea that a dog is dangerous because of its "breed" rather than its behaviour.

Targeting a specific breed is not appropriate. The main problems relate to irresponsible ownership and lack of education.

I believe that we can learn to prevent most of the severe attacks. This is also the expressed view of veterinary and animal welfare organisations across the World and including The Kennel Club, NCDL and BVA. What we desperately need is for some rules to be created for the investigation of serious dog bite incidents that will enable us to understand the causes of attacks and begin to educate the “breeders”, owners and the general public to prevent escalation in an increasingly crowded world.
In my opinion this includes containing the dogs involved rather than immediately killing them if at all possible. In most cases, the dogs are actually captured alive and can easily be caged and made safe without killing them immediately. I am not pleading for their lives – I agree that this “crime” should carry the death penalty for these dogs – but not immediately!
· Allow the animal behaviourists to test the animals involved.
· Check their system for drugs.
· Check their responses to various stimuli and check for attack training.
Surely a post-mortem is an absolute must in such cases. We need to know what really causes dogs to attack people and we cannot do that by just killing them.

If we are to prevent repeated recurrences of such incidents we have two choices. We can either ban ALL dogs (ignoring the many scientifically proven health, social and educational benefits of such pet ownership to the lonely, elderly and children) or we can instigate informed research to determine just how the misbehaviour of humans leads to such attacks and legislate to prevent such actions.

Some of this is quoted from a letter I wrote to my local MP.

Yes people like that should be.

i said that they should be banned because - 1. pits are easily passed off as staffies - which is illegal and wrong - people can and have been injured because of this
So basically your saying cos some idiots decide to pass pits off as staffies that staffies should be punished for it? that the owners who have spent lots of time bringing their staffies up right(i.e. all the members on here who own staffies) should have to give up or have their loving family dog pts because of some idiot passing pits off as staffies??

People can and have been injured because of people not bringing their dogs up right, because of people not researching dogs/breeds before getting one, Not all attacks are by pits or staffies or rotties or other big breeds, there are plenty by little dogs, the only difference is "Child attacked by Lhasa Apso" doesn't sell news papers aswell as "Child attacked by Pit Bull"

2. i have witnessed the horror of a staffy/pitbull attacking another dog - not nice - so therefore you may understand why this (and other attacks) have turned me aaginst this breed
I personally in the flesh havent seen the results of a dog seriously attacking another, but have seen the pics on the net etc. and have heard from other dog owners about such things, Any dog can attack another dog, I know of a springer spaniel that was attacked by a greyhound/lurcher not far from me, should all greyhounds/lurchers be banned??...

ask yourself this - why were they banned in the first place?
Have taken out my answer to this, as Sal answers it so much better than me
