What is the most rare/exotic breed of dog you have ever met - is there one breed you

have not met but would love to?

I don't think I've ever met a 'rare' breed, actually. Probably the most unusual dogs at our local parks have been:

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Alaskan Malamute

Eurasier

I've met a couple of "Grand Blue de Gascoigne" (hope I've spelt that correctly?) when walking at a park near my Mum's house. I think the owners would have been impressed that I knew which breed they were as I should imagine people are always asking them about their "Great Danes"! They are very unusual and HUGE!

I like the Russian Black terriers I have met-I wouldn't have thought they were very common either.

Would like to meet a Portugese Water dog as my breed supposedly have their origins in this breed.

Oooh, that's a good question!

Well I have met several thai Ridgebacks - when in their native country.
Catahoula Leopard Dog - I met one in New Orleans.
Miniature Australian Shepherds - met some at a breeder's in Florida... my friend's aunt bred them.
I saw a Beauceron in my local high street last year.
And also saw a Grand Bleu de Gascogny in the high street. [Snap! Kerryowner!]
Oh, and nothing (pictures in books or online) ever really prepares you for your first sight of a Bergamasco!

We met a Chow-chow at a dog show but it "started" on Parker and he was having a growl back as he was on a lead so I had to move him near to a different dog. They are usually quite aloof I think.

Well I thought I would be the only one to have spotted the Grand Blue dog Merlin'sMum!

Fab answer, as you've introduced me to two breeds I'd never heard of!

As it happens, there's a lovely Portugese Water Dog at our nearest park - she and Dexter play together quite a bit and she is adorable. Very sweet and with the softest coat imaginable

I met a Eurasier at a bbq. Beautiful but very aloof!

My old boss had two chows. One was a big teddy bear but the other was a sod. Had a liking for knees!

Met a bouvier de flandres (sorry if spelling wrong!) at a show a couple of years ago. Never seen one before or since but a gorgeous dog!

We posted at the same time I think - I added my Snap as an edit

Looking forward to seeing Harlequin (aka Tricolour) Beaucerons at the end of July, when I'm going to a companion show hosted by the UK Beauceron Club, not far from here.

Not sure what else is considered rare.... I saw my first Catalan Sheepdogs recently, came home & told my elderly mum who thought I said Matalan Sheepdogs....
