How much are the 'cheapest' farms?

I don't mind being out in the sticks - I wonder how much the farms are here in Wales (or south west England).

Any ideas guys?

Azz - It all depends on the acreage, buildings are not really that valuable, it's the land they sit on, remember that old saying 'Buy land, they've stopped making it anymore'

How long is a piece of string Azz?

It all depends on how big it is, how large the farmhouse is, where it is situated etc etc etc.

Have a look in agricultural papers (websites) such as Farmers Guardian, Farmers Weekly and also estate agents sites which specialise in farms and estates such as Strutt Parker, CKD Galbraith etc.

Azz a lot of people rent rather than buy a farm.
Councils used to have a proportion of rentable farms available and the big country estates each had a number of farms attached for rent.

There are a number of websites which have farms to rent, here is just one. It has a couple in Wales ...

You need a fair bit of working capitol for stock/rent/machinery etc and to get you through the lean times.

Thanks guys - I will check out all those resources you've posted! Just something small would be nice - mostly to grow my own veg and perhaps be able to keep some poultry and maybe a little livestock.

Didn't know you could buy woodlands! Shame you can't build a small house in them tho

I've never really like the idea of renting Mini - always thought it was a bit of a waste :- /

Sounds like a great idea for a place you are looking for, I would shove Mini out of the way but I am a fairly rubbish housekeeper
I know a wee house in your own woods with a river, meadow .... oh would be perfect, but I can understand why they dont want everyone building houses there. You can camp on your land tho so I guess a caravan would be cool now and again
all out of my price range just now anyway! But its nice to dream

Not much land with it though

As to the other option of renting. We have looked into tenanted farms and to be honest, for the price to set up and then having to find the rent, as well as make something of a profit/living it really wouldn't be worth it for us.
