Why is your friend not happy with the vet's recommendation? Surely the vet is the one who examined the dog and diagnosed its need, we are not experts on here.

Dry food but the dog has had some problems with Cystitis and sediment found in his urine...had lots of tests, scans etc to rule out stones and cancer so now they want him on different food but they hate Hills and even if they did like it they can't afford it so I was asking to trying to help find a wet food that would be good to try...I wasn't asking for an experts opinion just some recommendations. x

Looking at it, it seems most wet foods have a lower protein content than dry dog foods anyway, also looking in to it, it is quite controversial to say the least, vets recommend low protein but newer studies have found no links to high protein foods causing a problem.
Several people on here swear by Chappie if a dog needs a bland diet to settle the tummy and it is low in protein, I don't think it is a good quality of food, as it has too little meats in for my liking.
Just looking on the web to see if there are any better foods x

I would recommend NATURE DIET to be honest.
1 because I use it myself
2 because it is roughly 10% Protein
3 It has high quality ingredients
BUT I would also discuss any decisions with a vet, They suggest HILLS for everything in my opinion that is what they sell in shop and that they get commission for too.
Get her to read this too http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/best-d...ein-dog-foods/
It is very interesting

One of my dogs had crystals in her urine last year and the tried to put her on hills too but she's raw fed so I wasn't keen. We had a long chat and the upshot was the wet food was recommended as being wet is preferable to dilute the urine, it's also quite high in salt which makes them drink more and therefore dilutes the urine. soaking kibble probably has the same effect. We stuck to raw, added cranberry tablets and a vitamin B complex and it cleared up and so far she's remained free although she's due a urine analysis in the next few weeks.
Also isn't the protein in wet food lower simply because it's wet, remove the liquid and it's no longer low protein. So can't be compared like for like protein wise.

This explains it better than me
