Going to the loo in lesson time.

I am a primary school teacher (year 4).I don't allow children to visit the toilet in lesson time. Would this rule bother you as a parent?

Depends if they have had enough time to go in break time. Maybe remind them they must go and to remember to wash hands. Also depends on how grown up they are at age 8? Some aren't as grown up as others at that age and nerves can play a part in this problem. Strange thing to ask on a dog forum?

I make it very clear the rules are breaktime, and lunchtime only. Lessons are never longer than a couple of hours, of course if a child has a medical note they are allowed to go.

I can see why the poster asked as they are a dog owner. So yep why not. After all there are lots of questions asked that aren't dog related and discussed. So I change my query of a strange thing to ask to why not ask? We are some of us parents of kids now and at school and at sometime long ago. Or have been mid day supervisors. That was me at sometime ago and we had to be very careful helping some of the very young ones when they asked to go to the toilet.

One of the mums came in to have a word before a Christmas because her daughter was busting on the way because I'd made her wait all afternoon

I would have a problem with it, it happened to my son once. I then got a phone call at work to collect my son from school as he had diarrhoea and was clearly not able to wait. The teacher didn't even apologise and yes I had words with the head teacher about it. As their teacher I think you know those who try it on and those who don't.

To me, that seems harsh.

Only if I wanted to go.

I'd have a problem with it too. You never can tell when the start of a UTI may hit or the dreaded runs. Denying access to the loo could bring a lot of embarrassment and even lead to bullying for the child who loses control of bladder or bowels in class
