Taste the difference Xmas cake kit

Ever the domestic goddess in the kitchn (not!) I'm going to try the Sainsburys taste the difference Xmas cake baking kit this weekend
Anybody tried it? It has some good reviews & is on offer at the mo for £9.99 instead of £14.99.
I don't really like Christmas cake but my parents are coming for Xmas so I'm out to impress

Why does she do one too? We have no Waitrose close here, plus I work next door to Sainsburys & have loads of nectar points to use

I'm tempted to try this as well. So if I made it now, it would be ok to eat at Christmas?

Lovely idea I do make my own mince pies though! with ready made pastry & a jar of mince meat
10 out 10 for effort for me

Yes, I think you are supposed to make them early, as long as you keep them in a sealed container..... I think! I don't know as never made one
I'm not sure about when to ice either - maybe just make the cake & ice it a day or so before Xmas? Perhaps somebody can enlighten?
PS they also do the icing/marzipan kit to go with the cake, I'll probably get that too

I start making mine oct/nov wrap them up in tin foil, keep em dry and cool and every now and again pour more whiskey, brandy or whatever alcohol I use over them then leave them to soak it up!!

By xmas they're pretty lethal

Honestly, Christmas cakes are easy to make! I've done it since I was 14! I usually make in October and ice on the 23rd or 24th December. I keep it wrapped in a layer of grease proof and then a layer of foil, feeding it with brandy a couple of times. I make the cake from scratch but cheat a bit and use ready rolled icing Use warmed apricot jam to stick the marzipan to the cake and then the icing to the marzipan.
