Pregnant dog 'dumped in alleyway midway through giving birth'

A dog was dumped and "left to die" in an alleyway in the middle of giving birth to five puppies.

The Yorkshire Terrier was abandoned midway through a difficult and painful labour, the RSPCA said.

"Someone had just left this dog, and her pups, to die," said inspector Mel Fisher.

"It was clear there were complications [with the birth]. She was breathing heavily in a laboured way.

"It seems likely the owner just dumped her because of the difficult labour and didn’t want to pay for veterinary treatment."

Words fail me they really do. Guess we should be used to it by now but I just don't understand the cruelty some animals have to endure and by human hands. Glad the wee lass and pups are doing ok.

How can anyone be so callous, that poor little girl, how scared and in pain she must have been with no one even caring enough to help her. So glad she was found and brought to safety.

Well there is one thing that is pretty certain, the bitch and puppies will get a better home now than they would have had with the original owners...

They're big puppies for such a little dog, no wonder she had trouble. Doesn't look like she was fed properly either.

I hope that someone recognises the mother, and contacts either the police or the RSPCA with the owner's details. Poor May, this really is unforgivable - most vets would have agreed to delayed payments for an emergency.
