Darwin's canine joyrider

A dog caused amazement in Darwin, Australia, when he was spotted apparently driving a mobile home.

Woodley, a two-year-old German Koolie, was seen in the driving seat with his paws on the wheel as the vehicle sped down the street, swerving across the road. An astonished passer by, Phil Newton, managed to chase the double-decker, climb in through a window and put the handbrake on, bringing Woodley's joyride to a halt.

Woodley's owner, 62-year-old Richard McCormack, had popped into a shop, leaving Woodley in the passenger seat. When he came out, his mobile home was heading off downhill. Mr McCormack explained that Woodley, who has been observing him driving from from the passenger seat, likes to sit in the driving seat when left, and has learned to release the dashboard-mounted handbrake.

Admitting that Woodley has copied him before, Mr McCormack vowed to put paid to Woodley's boy racer tendencies and adjust the handbrake.
