......but the Labrador at dog classes wasn't attacking yours. From what I can gather, it was only trying to be sociable, as dogs do.

Your dog was the one being aggressive towards the Labrador.

And no, my dogs wouldn't fight back if they were being "attacked", my multi-pedigree would try and play or leave the dog alone and carry on sniffing, whereas my Westie may or may not give a small growl, and then move on.

What worries me here is that you talk about "attacking" as if it's an everyday occurance with every dog you come across. It sounds like your dog is the one who wants to do the "attacking".

Her profile states that she drives a Corsa, so at least 17.

17 (at least) is no excuse for the attitude towards dog owning she has.

Tut Tut no point having a hissy fit just because its not going your way, at 18 years of age you should be passed the tantrums, I note your also a horse owner, there are two types the veritys of the world who mummy and daddy bought the most expensive horse and verity is miffed cos it aint working right and winning. then there is the dad bought a fair priced two year old which the daughter worked hard with and broke/brought on herself,
I would have hoped you would have more SAVVY as a horse owner but sadly I feel you fall into group 1

I'm not defending Suze's position, I too think she was in the wrong but I would say a couple of things:

I don't think that Suze meant that the lab was doing the attacking - I think what she meant was that when her dog attacked the lab, the lab owner didn't try to get her lab out of the way (i.e. for the lab's own protection).

There are some dogs (e.g. my own rescue) who have not been properly socialised and who are frightened of other dogs getting too close. However, if this was the situation, Suze should have made the other owner aware rather than just allow the lab near & her dog to attack. I do think it was Suz'e responsibility to ensure that the situation she described didn't arise in the first place.

The Labrador's owner obviously wasn't worried about the position his dog was in, he would have moved the dog.

I feel I have to step in here and defend Suze.

I read from her posts that her pup, Millie, was frightened of this Lab and yet the Lab owner allowed the dog to intimidate Millie - whether intentional or not. Firstly, I think it is only polite for dog owners to ask the other owner whether it is ok for their dog to say hi. Many dogs go to training classes to socialise and overcome a fear of other dogs, and allowing strange dogs to scare others is not the way forward IMO.

I do not agree with Suze's rather aggressive language regarding the Labrador owner but can understand her being upset when her pup (Millie is only very young I believe) was telling the Labrador in no uncertain terms that she wasn't happy with it being in her space, and the owner did nothing about that.

I find it very disturbing that someone has bred a 'young pup' with such a temperament this is where the problem stems from...it is time the government got its act together and stopped backyard breeding.

Fair point, however, Suze should be teaching her dog how to behave around dogs who approach her, and that the outburst towards the Labrador was not acceptable, whether a dog approaches Millie without being asked to or not.
