taking Ben to his/our first agility comp in Dublin!!

Im taking Ben to his/our very first agility competition this Sunday down in Dublin!!

We will be the entertainment for everyone - and a good example of how not to do it!!

But honestly I am not expecting great things from him, just going to go for the day out and a
bit of a laugh!!

So I have entered him into Prelim, Small dog agility and Small dog jumping!!
Will bring my camera down and try to get some pics.

Looking forward to it though!!

thank you everyone!

Im just gonna treat it like any another day.
Not getting worried about it all and making sure Ben enjoys himself is the most important thing tho!

Untill Sunday......

well today went ...eh ... interestingly!!

I entered Ben (Border Terrier) in Small dog agility and Small dog jumping. Also had him in Introductory, but thought as the jumps were slightly higher than what we had trained we'd give that one a miss.

So first go was agility. Walked the course thinking yes I can do this, I'll be on this side, which jumps he could run out on etc etc

Unfortunately Mr Ben had other ideas!! Namely lets do a coupla jumps have a wander and sniff about, tunnel, weaves then lost interest!! Deciding instead to go for a run about out of the ring to say hello to the Obedience class running behind!!

The judge got to him before me - lifted him and handed him back to me - oh the imbaresment
Luckly though everyone was friendly (including the judge!) and didnt worry too much about it!

Then the jumping class which thankfully went better. Managed to do all the jumps and stay in the ring! Made loadsa mistakes but at least he finished and wasnt captured by the judge again!

So I think I need to work on his concentration slightly for next time! But was a good day out Ben met lots of new friends and is totally shattered now sleeping infront of the fire!

Im putting it all down to experience as he only started learning agility about 4 months ago and everyone has to start somewhere I suppose!!

Sounds as though Ben had a great time Well done on getting round the jumps.

I guess the first competition is always the worst, but at least it shows you your strengths and weaknesses and gives you something to works on. Also, if you have been training for only four months you did pretty well.

Pleased that you both had a good day
