New development in separation anxiety

Archie's separation anxiety has just escalated, since last night, to standing by the door howling, panting and dribbling while I'm in the house and showing no signs of leaving

He's obviously really stressed out but I can't think what's triggered this I'm ignoring him for the moment as I don't want to give him attention for this behaviour.

Any suggestions on what to do? We have been working on the same desensitisation program we were using last time, but this time instead of improving the problem it seems to be making it steadily worse Poor Ziggy just looks really confused... he has no idea what's wrong with Archie

Is there a bitch in season anywhere nearby?

Hi Oooee I am so sad to hear Archie is having problems , Carole has a good point , are there any bitches in season around you, this is the sort of behaviour often exhibited by dogs when there is a b/i/s around ?

Otherwise it sounds as if something may have scared Archie, you may never find out what it is though .Where is he when he exhibits this behaviour? Does it occur everywhere in the house /in just one room /all the time/ just in one place?

Think the mystery has been solved

A neighbour had some friends visiting, and they had their bitch with them. They said she wasn't in season but maybe it was just before or just after? Anyway that seems to have been what set Archie off. It's really funny that Ziggy didn't react at all though

Bitches is season can really affect some dogs badly causing them to lose weight even ..(I suspect the bitch may have just been finishing a season) Ziggy is a lot younger that Archie who is 'all man'

Bitch is gone now and Archie's still doing it.

Is it possible that she left some scent behind and it's driving Archie crazy?

..yes, the scent can of a bitch in season can linger for weeks .. it is also very difficult to mask with other scents .

Does the scent of b/i/s upset neutered dogs or entire dogs only?

I think it is only an entire dog that it bothers. One of mine is not entire and he does not care at all if there is a Bitch in season.
