do you like the idea of them even if you wouldnt use them? if not why not?

I used a dog creche for my elder dog from when she was 10 weeks old until 6 months as I was working full time and at that time could not take my dog with me.

It was in a private house and meant that she could be exposed to other (safe) dogs, children, cats etc and thus be socialised and habituated (almost) as well as I would do myself.

Of course I am sure this news will have several readers in a state of apoplexy but as she is now 11 years old with impeccable manners, a registered PAT dog as well as being a fabulous competition dog not to mention stooge dog when I assess dogs for rescue, the proof of the pudding.............. etc etc ;_

This arrangement would not suit all owners and certainly not all dogs (I cannot imagine anyone being able to cope with my GSD when he was a pup let alone now) so, as in anything, it is horses for course.

IMHO

Not the one we had round here
I went to look at it and basically the dogs were running around all day and the two staff were watching them like hawks and any sign the dogs were going to play they got a blast of water

tbh I hate the idea of my dogs racing about all day - I like my dogs to have a good off switch and when im not here they sleep

imo a dog walker would be much better - or kennels
Where the dogs have more structure - plenty of chilling time with set exercise

thanks for that i think if all dogs were tested first to see how well they got on with other dogs, to minimise the risk of fights or accidents happening then i would be happier...

i wouldnt want a large number of dogs either, and i wouldnt want one member of staff.

what if the day care did this? one i looked at had a strict structure, so dogs werent running around all day, they had rest periods where they had to lie down and take a nap..

that horrible about the water poor doggies

It would really depend on what my situation was (the hours I was working, the money I was earning, etc.). If I was out working a normal day and hypothetically they were alone, I think my preference would be a dog walker.

Only Bo would need a walking/day care service if I ended up having to leave them. I'm not sure a day care environment would be conductive to a dog that already struggles with her adrenalin levels. But I wouldn't rule it out if I felt happy with the set up and it didn't cost a fortune.

This is what would worry me. I'd worry that I'd make my hyper dog even more hyper by giving her massive periods of activity. She isn't the type of dog that would go and sit in the corner after a quick play -- she'd be non-stop for as long as it was handed to her and I don't think it would be good for her.

so would the time out bit work for you? somewhere she could go and be on her own and just lie down and settle a bit?

I guess that would be better, im just not very good at leaving other people in charge of my dogs and Mia is a bit special needs so I doubt anywhere would take her anyways

If/when I get my toller puppy, I would consider it. I've been putting a lot of thought into how to potentially raise a puppy around work. I work full time but the OH and I have flexible hours and potential to sometimes work from home. I'd plan to take as much time off of work as possible to settle it in, then when I have to go back the OH will take some time off so it won't be alone in the early months, but then I've been considering how to care for the puppy after this. Until it's old enough and settled enough to be alone for 3-4 hours until the dog walker comes in, I need alternative care. I'm considering a home dog carer/nice neighbour ideally however I would definately consider doggy daycare, but possibly only half days so thr dog gets some downtime in thr afternoon.
