Muzzle the numpty owners is my opinion.

She was saying they have young people coming into their rehoming centres see the staffies the crosses and say they need a dog like for the their safety.

I think it is Ian Duncan Smith who has said he wants all Bull breed dogs muzzled when out in public after the tragic mauling of the little girl at the weekend in Chingford.

Muzzle the irresponsible owners. It's sad what has happened but I can't see how muzzling all dogs outside will solve the problem.

I hate statements like that their is no problem with staffies or staffie crosses its the stupid owners who can't be bothered to teach them anything that are to blame not the dog.


I have never known a staffie to be aggressive and have only ever heard good things about them the only time I heard bad things was in press.

The mother clearly does not understand dogs nor did the family because they would have never left their child on their own with the dog in the first place if thats what they believed. Just because they made a mistake they should not condem all dogs. But I hope this will teach parents to teach their children about dogs and their behaviours to avoid accidents in the future.

Another good point made by the Chief Exec from Dogs Trust that Staffords are known as the nanny dog with children.

I think she was trying to get across it is the cross breeding for a hard dog and the type of people that own them but had to be careful obviously as the mother of the child that was savaged and died at the hands of one of these dogs and owned by her brother was sitting beside her.

She made some good points though. Problem with muzzling is as we know people who care and love their dogs will comply even if they don't agree and will abide by the law to keep their dog safe. As with so many things today the people that don't care will carry on and cause problems. I wonder how it will be policed too as there are so many cut backs.

Poor breeding, poor training, poor socialisation and a poor home life is what causes issues like this I think. It is NOT in a true well bred, well trained, well socialised family staffy's nature to show any aggression towards humans. It is completely out of character.

The media have totally demonised the entire breed and it disgusts me. If they reported every dog attack and dog bite the way they do with staffies there would be a different opinion out there I think. I associate with what I consider to be responsible staffy owners and I have never had problems with their dogs. The amount of us that have problems with numerous other breeds - incidents with both dogs and people, but nothing like that ever makes the headlines...

this is going to sound harsh, but the only person that needs muzzling is the stupid woman that made this statement.

I feel for her, that her child was attacked but surely even she can see that this nonsence she is spurting, is simply going to cause even more behaviourial problems in dogs which are perfectly safe.

I do fear, if all of these big statements are to do with the bbc 1 programme on tonight at 10.30 on britains dangerous dogs. I'm going to watch it, and try not to break my television if it makes me cross.

Just a knee jerk reaction, how many times have we heard about banning of the so called Devil Dog(rottis) and nothing has come of it. As most of us on here are aware its the people who need the educating so they can pass it on down to the dogs.

Why on earth should the majority suffer for the minorities actions? what a stupid idea that will never happen.

At the same time, why don't we muzzle and handcuff all adults when around children? after all, last time I checked, people hurt/injure/kill other people far more than dogs do.

Angela Glynne`s family were breeding pit bulls. The dog had previously killed another dog. The child was apparently sleeping in the same room as the dog who had been moved there a few weeks after the brother joined the army. The grandmother said she gave the dog a packet of crisps and it it attacked the child. (!). The brother has convictions for violence and the family had been reported for breeding illegal dogs. The pregnant bitch PBT was `accidentally` run over the day after the tragedy.
So pardon me if I don`t take advice on dog law from Angela Glyn.
