I can 100% back up that yes..I remember the sound well when I was a youngster and my Grandfather kept Staffordshire Bull Terriers and a couple of Pit Bulls, one of which was a cross but they did both sound the same unlike listening to the Staffords, sort of like a deep short 'Ooooooof' when not really attempting to get all that vocal whereas his Staffords being slightly more 'Yappy' when barking. He never had a kennel fight in all the years he owned his dogs, not once, I suppose he was lucky in that sense and his dogs all of them were very sweet but sadly for the dogs they were not allowed in the house, mainly because my Nan didn't like Staffords or any kind of Bully breed, plus all her Poodles lived in and she did not want my grandfathers dogs around them. All were perfectly happy, and well socialised and loved, just not by my Gran, she just referred to them as 'ratbags'

No- I dont beleive they are dangerous dogs in themselves - I think like any bull breed they are not for the faint hearted and certainly not for the stupid owners who have them for the wrong reasons.

I think their power and stature are their downfalls when it comes to aggression as if they arent socialised properly then they can be a deadly weapon.

But the question is - are the breed themselves dangerous - NO - no more so than staffs, rotties, mastiffs etc etc.

Its just sad that the wrong people own them for the wrong reasons.

i think its down to the owner, not the breed.
oviously bull breeds in general are very strong in every sense but so are alot of breeds that aren't bull breeds.
unfortunately there are alot of idiots out there owning these breeds just 4 the statous, they are not looked after rite and get abit aggressive, but it would be the same if those idiots decided to own poodles instead.
pit bulls are beautiful dogs,i love everything about them,if they weren't banned i would own one

Right, having read this thread and the title the conclusion is that Pitbulls are indeed dangerous IF IN THE WRONG HANDS. However, that could also be said of other breeds so it isn't specific to pitbulls!

Perhaps, but I think they are more likely to "snap" and be triggered by things that other dogs would see as "ok" The other problem with them is, switching them off once they start.

Can I ask, how many people participating in this thread have had actual hands on, day to day experience of Pit bull terriers?
Dawn.

But the fact remains that if they manage to rid the country of every single Pit Bull, then which breed will the idiots move onto next? Because sure as eggs are eggs they will then destroy another breed then another then another.I know the topic is Pit Bulls but i think this is a relevant argument.

I do understand what you are saying and I'm sure they already have other breeds but I do feel the police are more upto cracking down on illegal fighting so hopefully it wont be as widespread (or the dogs will be kept well undercover so wont be in a position to attact a child) as is the case at the moment.
