But surely if one fox is left alive it will still be a threat to someones chickens, lambs, children so the only answer can be to exterminate the lot of them if we are to eradicate that threat which seems to be the argument for hunting (even though it isnt effective obviously).

Oh I know, leave a few chicken heads in the coup, the odd leg ot two in the field. Yes thats a good way to stock up for hard times.
Well in the fridge obviously!

they store it like any other animal bury it usually like any dog does - its down to the nature of the 'evil' beast. Im surprised that people who want the destruction of one of our native animals know so little about them.

Yep and about as much sense as foxes killing for kicks - its the humans that do that, and to get back on topic as I said watching an animal getting ripped to shreds for fun is pretty much the same as those who watch dog fighting IMO.

In almost 20yrs of hunt following and support, I have yet to see this.

Well you see, I dont need to go read articles to find information on the fox.

I go by what I know, and what I have seen and I guess, not many foxes have read the manual either

You dont know much about the working of the hunt either it seems.

A hunt works in with two separate divisions 1) the hunt itself, which will consist of the Huntsman and his staff, (whip) and so on...usually amount to around 4 in total..these are the ones who do the hunting, they are the ones who will more than likely be in on a kill...(if that) it is usually over by the time they get there.

2) The field...lead by a field master..his job is to keep the "field" (bums on horses) under control, of land where they are not allowed to go and generally keeping them out of the "huntsman" way.

They are not involved with the hunting of the fox... occasionally some will be sent on point (the experienced ones) but it is very unlikely members of the field will be involved or see a kill...it can happen , but usually be default.

There is nothing like standing on a hill in the middle of the country side, on a cold frosty winter morning... hearing they bay of the pack in the distance.. catching sight of horse and rider galloping across the open fields...

I will never tire of it, and long may it go on.

This subject will never be an easy one to discuss... everyone will have strong opinions, and I respect them all.

Each to their own!!

Because most people consider rats as nasty little creatures, and associate them with diesease .

Foxes on the other hand look cute and doggy like, and wrongly associate them as so...

Where I walk my dogs, there is a heard of deer, for the acreage they live on, they can become overpopulated, for the heard to survive they need to have there numbers kept in check.... a while back in the year. they did a cull..... dont know how many they killed but they will have done a natural selection...the old, weak, and young males...

The heard is thriving again.... they are a pleasure to watch... but if we took the "leave them be" attitude they would suffer badly through the winter, loosing far to many to starvation , and road kills..as they will have to come down to forage for food, in populated areas.... as it is now..you dont see many , they are high up in thew woods, do and living they way they should.....
Yes, you are talking about deer in captivity, or National Trust Land etc. etc. where we have an expert, and I mean an EXPERT deer shooter, fully licenced to kill said animals, and usually only just that, with a proper deer killing machine, not a run of the mill farmer let loose with a 12 bore shooting poor foxes at will without a clue or a care come to that, as to how to aim for a really good shot and kill them in an instant! I think that's fact!
