Ox Hearts

Do you cook them?

Also just been to a butchers where they do meat packs for dogs, they are normally ground chicken with carcasses. Do these require cooking too?

One last thing, As I am giving the dog Salmon Oil now, is it absolutely essential to give them Vitamin E in their diet or will this be covered in her daily Purina dry food.

Sorry for all the questions, if ya don't know ya don't know

x

Butchers dont really know about dog nutrition
and yup afaik if you are giving fish oil you have to supliment with extra vit e as it will become depleated

or you could just feed fish if your dogs will eat it raw - mine dont

You might find sometimes your dog will refuse to eat certain things raw, 2 of mine wont eat raw kidney so they have it lighty fried in garlic and then they scoff it, completely ignoring the fact that it's still raw in the middle.

To the first two queries I would say no and no.

A prepared food eg. purina I would say yes and it should tell you on the packaging!
As well as fish oil you could give the occasional egg or olive oil. I don't think you will do any harm giving more than needed in natural foods but best not to give too much in suppliments.

I don't see why you would have to cook them. I feed raw and feed lamb hearts raw. I also cook them, chop them up and use them for training treats. So I don't see why ox heart should be any different.

Can you let me know which butcher this is, I'm always on the lookout for new suppliers and notice you live near me

Thank you all for your replies. I will get some Vitamin E.

Butchers is Honeywells http://www.honeywellfarmshop.com/

They also, at the till, have a shopping basket FULL of marrow bones, you can take as many as you want, fill your boots. You get a LOT of meat there for a fiver. 15 hearts a fiver too

Thanks everyone, so glad I found this helpful forum
