Tamaskan Dog Devil [Moved to Discussions Section for QUESTIONS ONLY, see post 2)

My Tamaskan Dog Devil has recently destroyed my slippers, my mattress and my daffodills. Has anyone else got a little Tamaskan Dog Devil like mine?

But how can you not forgive those cute eyes!!!!!!!!!!

All replies have been deleted as I don't have the time to read every single one and some of them contained personal comments that could be seen as libel. In future you are reminded not to name people, but to ask questions about things you have no proof about, or post proof to back up any such claims.

Now as we are a site about dogs it is reasonable and legally acceptable that people will want to know how a breed began and anyone involved in the creation of the breed should expect to be asked questions and concerns about the breed and it's creation. And to be truthful in their answers (Or face the legal ramifications).

It seems the whole debate about this breed revolves around it's origin, and whether or not it's stock/lines includes Utanagons, and in particular, Utanagons with health defects/illnesses (whose breeder/s may or may not have been ejected from the Utanagon societies).

The Next post contains a breed profile that was submitted earlier today by blufawn to our articles section. However because of the controversy surrounding this breed I think it would be an idea to excersize precaution and to post the breed profile here instead and then let people submit any questions they have about this breed, it's origins, health concerns etc in this thread - blufawn, can then answer the questions if she wishes too.

The breed was never mentioned on Dogweb untill blufawn created a post about it herself - it is therefore her own actions that have raised questions about the breed on this site, and these resulting questions are borne out of those actions.

PLEASE NOTE:

You may ONLY ask a question about the breed. YOU CANNOT accuse anyone of wrong doing, but merely ask questions about anything in particular that is on your mind. Blufawn does not have to answer any questions, but if she is a representative of her breed it would obviously be beneficial if she acted in the breeds best interest - it's up to her to decide what that is.

ANYONE WHO APPEARS NOT TO HAVE READ THIS AND POSTS SOMETHING THAT ISN'T A QUESTION WILL FACE A THREE DAY BAN

Breed Profile EXACTLY as submitted by blufawn

The Tamaskan Dog - Wolf Dog without the Wolf

Origins
The Tamaskan Dog (pronounced tam-ass-kan) is a rare breed, originating from Finland. Originally Arctic sled type dogs were imported from USA and selective breeding started in the early 80's and included Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamute. After a shaky start we believe to have created a dog that looks closer to that of a Wolf than any other.

Importing into the UK started only very recently and their is still only a few around.

All Tamaskan Dogs are registered with The Tamaskan Dog Register which keeps all health and breeders records worldwide.

The UK is represented by The Tamaskan Dog Society of Great Britain

Apperance

The Tamaskan Dog is a large, athletic dog. The temperament of the dog should be very friendly and affectionate without any hint of aggression or nervousness. Should give a wolf-like impression with coarse and thick fur, small ears and a straight brushy tail.

The FCI, UK & Pictorial Standard is available on the Tamaskan Register Website

Health

Tamaskans are a new breed and have no known genetic complaints. Beacause of their Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute ancestors , the Tamaskan Dog Register insist that all breeding stock has their hips x-rayed and their eyes tested.

The Tamaskan Register has compiled the Hips Scores for the breed average, the results are 9.2. A very good score. All Tamaskans tested for PRA have been clear.

Training

Tamaskan Dogs are generally of high intellegence, often to clever, making them stubborn and uncooperative. With careful training they can reach high levels of training. They also have the pulling instinct of their Sled Dog ancestors and make good sled dogs. They are heavier than their Husky ancestors and not quite as powerful and large as their Malamute cousins, but their high intellegence and willingness to please make them excellent for hobbyists, the fact that they will not run away if let off the lead is also good for those who worry about not getting their team back!!!

Feeding

Breeders reccomend the Barf diet or a complete meal accompanied with some good quality meat. You should always have a constant supply of water.

Summary

To own a Tamaskan Dog is a rewarding experiance. They take over your life as only a dog can. They fill your days with laughter as you watch their strange antics and they fill it with tears after they destroy your favourite pair of shoes.
The friends you will make as you walk in the park, to the stares and shouts of 'What is it?' Or 'Quick run it's a wolf escaped from the zoo.'
You will never be lonely and you will never be bored. You just can't appreciate the love you can feel for a dog as it curls up on you lap to watch tele with you, all be it they are far to big to sit on your lap but they try anyway, they just want to be near you.

Undemanding, unquestioning, selfless, loyal, gentle, kind, proud, wilful, affectionate, fun-loving, sociable, intelligent...............my best friend.

There seems to be a fairly set temperament for the 'Tamaskan' already?...How would you know this was set in stone with the very brief amount of time you have bred this dog?

and is it true that the Tamaskan has had Czechoslovakian Wolfdog included? Which indeed is a beautiful breed but infact not allowed (all be it unfairly) in this country without a Dangerous Wild Animal license...Hence if you are going to be importing to the UK that is a problem for potential owners and the dogs alike?

My question is - whats the point of asking questions over a breed that just came into being a weeks ago?

Following the Talamaskan Registry Link, you quote, "More recently other wolf looking sled type dogs have been integrated to improve bloodlines. "

What are these 'wolf looking sled type dogs'?

Under your health heading - you claim that these dogs have no known genetic complaints, yet are from the husky and malamute, both of which do have well-known problems for which DNA marker identification is being looked into in order to eliminate them, one of which is epilepsy. Would you not anticipate that dogs bred from these may well develop it, and other problems, too?

The point is questions are not slanderous or libel. Feel free to accuse people or make slanderous posts on your own website (then see it get shut-down) however thats not how we do things at Dogweb.

Legitimate questions and concerns can be raised without pointing the finger or accusing people (often without sufficient proof that would be required by a court of law) If you feel you can provide the proof to back up such claims fine, do so at your own risk away from Dogweb.

This thread gives people an oppourtunity to raise their concerns by means of asking questions, however by not allowing accusations to be thrown around we stay within the boundaries of the law, yet we still are able to raise those important concerns.

So I guess the point is Dogweb knows how to survive in the real world without shooting itself in the foot or shying away from it's ethos or duty.
