'Dog is for life' campaign launched in Cardiff

The dog welfare charity Dogs Trust is taking to the streets of Cardiff later in a bid to stop thousands of puppies being bought this Christmas, only to be abandoned soon after.

To convey the charity’s slogan of ‘A Dog is For Life, Not Just for Christmas’, twelve artworks have been designed for city centre walls across the UK, depicting the reasons given to Dogs Trust staff by owners who no longer wish to care for their dogs.

The campaign launches in Cardiff with artwork being created of a chocolate and white puppy on a hoarding on Wood Street in the Welsh capital.
"With more and more puppies flooding the Christmas market, all available at the click of a button -it is more essential than ever that our iconic message is ingrained in people’s minds. We hope that this visually striking campaign will encourage people to think twice about the commitment of dog ownership before impulsively buying a puppy. Our aim is to ensure that the artwork will be the only abandoned dogs the British public will see on their streets this Christmas period.”

I do hope that this campaign is successful, and think it would be an excellent idea elsewhere.
