'Compensation culture gone mad'

A dog owner plans to sue a council for thousands of pounds after her pe slipped a disc in grass while chasing a cat.

Scooby, a three-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel, was injured after getting his leg caught in long grass on council-owned land in Brighton, East Sussex.

His disabled owner, Rebecca Richardson, 48, claims that she now faces a Ł5,000 veterinary bill which she cannot afford to pay as she lives on benefits.

Yes, I'm getting a little bitter about the compensation culture. When people complain that kids are overprotected and don't learn to manage risk, it's because of the compensations culture. Schools, youth groups etc can't afford the insurance premiums for such basic activities. At the school where I work, children are not allowed to climb higher than their belly button. If the dog owner in this case is on benefits, she should be able to get help from the PDSA for the vets bills.
