Microwave information required please

I have been using a microwave oven for well over 30 years now, first a manual [turn the knob type] and then digital.

On Sunday I am expecting my new microwave to be delivered. It is not a combi one but does have a grill - otherwise it is apparently just a normal digital microwave.

But - and this is where I need information and advice please.

Apparently the inside is stainless steel so what sort of containers can I use in it? I know that I cannot use anything metallic in a normal microwave, so what can I use in one that has a stainless steel inner?

Can I, for example - heat something in a foil dish? I know I have never been able to in the three I have had so far, so would be extremely grateful if someone can help. I have been assured that the microwave will come with English instructions but I have heard that one before and I really really do want this to be the last microwave I ever have to buy, so if anyone knows I would be extremely grateful.

TIA

Malka

I think you could grill something in a foil dish, but not microwave it first

I doubt I will ever use the grill - I just wanted a new microwave as I thought mine had died - which of course it had not - but it was waaay out of guarantee and the new one has a five year guarantee. After I got rid of my cooker I bought a 46 litre "toaster oven" which I have probably only used a couple of times - I have a very small halogen oven which does any roasting that I want [brill for oven chips ] plus a George Foreman 14283 Compact Oven and Roaster, actually made by Russell Hobbs. Look it up on Amazon!

So I really only wanted a new digital microwave, the same size [25 litres] that I now have.

I think I am, as Eileen says, totally doolally.

I think you'll find that you should only use the normal 'non metalic' containers. The reason is that the stainless steel lining acts as a reflector for the microwaves, i.e. they bounce of and back down to the food in the middle of the oven. If you use metalic containers, or cover your food with foil, the microwaves will not penetrate into the middle of the food (and thus heat it up), plus the energy could be enough to cause sparks and such

As for instructions in English, tell me about it in CZ you often get instructions in twenty two languages (Everything from Albanian to Zambian ) but NOT in English. Now I fully concede that the instructions must be in the local language, (and some of the surrounding countries), but I would have thought that if you are going to print the dam thing in twenty two languages, at least ONE of them would be English. After all even the Yanks use English

The classic must be my LG cellular phone. Instructions in Ivrit only, not even Arabic [which is the second language here] or Russian [which is rapidly taking over the #1 spot].

So I contacted LG in Germany and they said that as that particular model was only made for the Israeli market, the only instructions were in Ivrit.

SIGH

But I reckon I should be able to work out the microwave as I really do not want to use it as a grill.

Only why are basic products no longer made?

Anotherthing we have in common

Our cooker hob is a four ring thingy with touch buttons to control on/off and the heat setting etc. I was never happy with it but the installer said it was the bees knees and much more reliable than the old ones. Well guess what after just three years it started misbehaving, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't (Bit like your microwave )

If we had one of the old hobs with the knobs, which you turn to set the heat, I guarantee it would still be working now.

I don't buy this 'Technology is wonderful story' some of it is but a lot of it is rubbish Oh well time for me to go and prepare Riannas dinner and a hundred other things, see you all tomrrow.

I bought a cheap microwave from Dunne;s a few years back. Just a simply manual as I rarely use one,

Started eating off tin camping plates as I am such a clutz with the M.E.

Yes, you guessed. BUT only realised later what I had done and there was no damage. Googled it and sure enough some modern microwaves will take metal plates. The scientific explanation was beyond me but some of you clever ones will have no problem with that.
