Personally, I would prefer neither to be used.

It says a lot for our society that we even have to ask if it is right to use such appalling things on animals who trust us and look to us for protection.

They stink!

I saw a man with a young dog/puppy recently don't know if it was a Staffie or x/bull breed? it had a prong collar on, which surprised/shocked me(have only seen once before on full grown dog). The man looked to be the 'i'm well 'ard me' type(sorry n don't like to make assumption or want to offend anyone). It was almost as if he was trying to give off some kind of message about his dog needing to have such a collar on because was ferocious or something. I may have got this completely wrong but he looked a complete twit anyway and didn't see the need to have such a collar.

Edited, saw a cm episode where a lady used one because she had a large breed and a dodgy arm. So the dog should suffer so she doesn't?! Discusting.

I agree with both these points

In my view they should only be used in extreme circumstances, by experienced handlers.
I've never had an owner turn up to a class with one...sad to say I've had loads turn up with ill fitting headcollar type contraptions....yanking their Dogs by the nose.
