Leigh ~ Shy but very Sweet – 2yo Black Greyhound

LEIGH

Leigh (pronounced ‘lee’) is a 2 year old ex-racing greyhound boy. He is an average sized male who is looking in good condition now that he has put on a bit of weight. His coat is very sleek and is satin soft to the touch.



~ Personality ~
Dear Leigh is rather timid and shy at the moment, and we are currently working on getting him used to being around people. He needs time to adjust to the changes and to get to know the new kennel routine as he seems a little overwhelmed at the moment. He is slowly learning what cuddles are all about, and that a hand coming toward his head only wants to scratch his ears. We are sure that once this boy gets in to a foster home he will rapidly come out of himself.



~ Other Animals ~
Leigh has been good with the other dogs he has met so far and is a quiet boy around them. He is more content in the company of other dogs and is a bit braver, so a home with another confident dog to show him the ropes would greatly benefit this boy. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!



~ In the Home ~
Lovely Leigh has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit patient at the start and give him time to adjust to the big huge changes. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. This boy has oodles of potential and only needs a kind, patient owner to unlock his lovely character hidden behind the shyness.



~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Leigh is not a very active boy and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.



~ Where Am I? ~
Leigh is currently in PACT Rescue kennels in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to Norfolk to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Leigh is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation that has bases in Co. Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England. It operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in Ireland and the UK.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.
