Wow - this thread is getting really interesting now. Odd how so many of us were called names relating to gory stories!

I was also called Florence a lot, so much so that some people asumed my name was Florence. I wonder if there is a gory tale behind that one too!

The term "hangers-on" is ment to have come from people(normally friends/family) hangin on to the condemeds legs to hasten their death. Thats when hanging choked the condemend rarther than the more modern neck break
