Lovely they will soon pick up they love poor soil and neglect but not too much neglect. If you clip off the dead heads as soon as you see them they will keep flowering for a long time.

They will be fine without neglect too but they don't worry particularly where they grow and if there not watered regularly. You should see them growing out of old buildings etc.,

Lynn, I was told by an old neighbour to cut them back harshly every April. Yet our neighbour didn't and their bush is taller and more bushy than ours. Are you meant to cut them back?

I cut mine back but in the Autumn. The one we had left in this garden had got old and woody and straggly I wanted it dug out and replaced with a new one but Gorden gave it a good haircut and it has as you can see grown nice and tall and bushy but not madly bushy.
I don't cut them back harshly though.
