Good post.
Just one thing though. You shouldn't put the dog straight into cold water. This can cause shock. You want to bring the temperature down gradually first. So only use tepid to cool water at first ideally. Soak towels or sheets and place under legs around neck. After a few minutes of this then you can put the dog in the water to reduce temperature further. You don't want the dog to get to the point of shivering.
