Dog Medical Kit.

I have been reading up alot on dogs and after getting a book entitled 'Doglopeadia' (excellent read for dog owners both begginers and advanced) I decided that getting a Dog Medical Kit was a good peice of advice, better to be safe than sorry!.

I thought I would post a list of what I have bought on here and see what other people reccomened I should have in it, just incase I missed something out.

I have got:

Tweezers, Scissors, Nail Clippers
Strip of strong soft tape
Conforming Bandage
Gauze Bandages (2 different sizes)
Antiseptic Spay
Antiseptic Cream
Cotton Wool
Childrens Soluble Asprin
Glucose C Powder
Roll Of Adhesive Plaster
Open weave cotton bandage
Crepe Bandage
Antiseptic wipes
Heat Pads
Anti Flea Spray
Small empty Jar (incase of need for urine sample)
Dog (puppy) Shampoo.

I have also a less large medical Kit for the car.

I'd put long thin tongs on the list as well
I've got some but touch wood I've never had to use them

I'm not 100% sure but don't think you should give dogs any kind of human painkiller at all, it could make them very ill. Another thing you could get is a bottle of Hibiscrub from the chemist - its great for cleaning wounds. You can get a big bottle from the chemist for about £3. Its pink and you have to mix it with water (boiled and cooled if you are cleaning a wound) Vets use it but charge the earth for a small bottle of it.

I was a bit suprised to see human painkillers on there too, but thats what it said in Doglopeadia and its supposed to be written by a vet...

To be honest, I can see me ever giving a dog an asprin...

Oh I forgot to mention, I will be popping a bar of unscented, plain soap in there too, I read about it on the thread about it stopping bleeding claws.

Im going to get some percription things from vets to add there too, like ear drops/eye drops...

I don't think they would let you have any prescription drugs unless they were needed at the time that you went to the vets. You can buy Otodex ear drops from pets at home though and they are quite good for minor ear problems.

To be honest I thought that too... yet again, it is what the Doglopeadia advises, I will get general ones, for ear cleaning though...

Eye drops I will probably leave out, eyes are to precious to make any mistakes with.

I have mildly medicated eye drops (human) and golden eye ointment (human) in my kit, plus veterinary wound powder, gentian violet crystals and spray. Plus Piriton syrup (antihistamine), Benilyn cough syrup, germoline 'second skin' and many homoeopathic remedies. oh and tick tweezers...among other things.

Ooh yes and Sudocrem and Piriton tablets are also a good thing to have in. Piriton are safe for dogs and are very handy if they get stung by a bee or a wasp or if they are scratching excessively
