How to beat conjunctivitis quickly and without drugs!

As some of you know, Archie got recurring conjunctivitis through the whole of last summer. I think it was a combination of sticking his head out the car window (which he is no longer allowed to do) and allergies, possibly hayfever.

Anyway a couple of days ago I noticed the gunk in his eyes was starting to turn yellowy green and his eyes were VERY bloodshot.

The second I noticed I cracked open an eyebright capsule (herbal remedy - you can get it in the health shops) and made a tea out of it with boiling water. Then waited for it to get cold and have been wiping Archie's eyes with it morning and night. I store it in the fridge so it's nice and refreshing.

Well, this morning when I went to wipe Archie's eyes, there was no sign of any nasty discharge!

I'll keep using the eyebright for a couple of days but fingers crossed he'll be fine!

Great! Conjunctivitis is soooo horrible for dogs and humans Might be worth getting some of those in for emergencies!

Hi Ooee Eyebright is a very old remedy, glad it worked for you..
The plant has such a pretty little pink flower and the butterflies love it too.

I used to get conjuncti whenever I let myself get too run down. A little bicarb of soda mixed with water and then spead over and around the eye area, never once failed to get rid of it rather rapidly. In most cases, overnight if I caught it early enough.

Not sure how suitable that would be for dogs however.

ooee this is really spooky!

Loui yesterday got a sticky eye with some yellow stuff coming out of is. I bathed with some salt water and then again a few hours later. I called the vet and he suggested doing what I already had before taking Loui down to get the vet to look at it.

This morning the eye was fine so I cancelled the appointment. I have just noticed the yellow is still there but no where near as bad as yesterday and I didn't fancy a £70 bill at the vets for something I might be able to sort out myself.
Hope you don't think I am mean in saying that, far from it!

I don't think you're mean, Minnie. If you can avoid filling your dogs up with antibiotics for these things, they're more likely to be effective when you really need them.
