Diet for colitis (Eukanuba? Chappie? Your thoughts please)

as you may all be aware keira has colitis.
we are off to the vet's friday (again ) to sort out a good diet for her bowel's.
i have just been reading thru the many thread's about food and what other people feed.
someone mentioned eukenoba(sp)
keira was on this last week
is there anything i should know about this?
another thing the vet advised us to put her on was chappie i always thort this was a cheap and nasty brand but have seen since that on the tin it is approved by vet's and the vet did say with it being fish based was ok for keira to have.
your thorts please
btw she has always been fed dried food

Some people avoid Eukanuba for ethical reasons.

I have heard that Chappie can be excellent for dogs with sensitive stomachs

I am sure there will be much good advice on what to feed coming your way from experienced people here

My last dog (border collie) had colitus. He had distemper when a few months old and was left with the colitus. He used to eat Chappie too as recommended by our vet but also bland foods such as boiled rice, chicken and the likes!

Hi M, I`ve known a few dogs with colitis do very well on raw or homecooked food

Have a look at the link below, gives lots of info on recipes etc

GBL I also think the best option for colitis is fresh food and as few additives as possible ..fresh food isn't that much more expensive or a lot of fuss to prepare when you get used to it, and cheaper in the long run if you get a fit dog and it cuts out vets bills .

Hi, I thought I would just give you some advice from my personal experience. I have a retriever who suffers from colitis and ANYTHING can start it all off again. After trying numerous very expensive brands (including vets own Royal Canin), nothing would agree with him except Chappie. I actually didn't try the tinned I put him straight on the dry complete with chicken, that was almost two months ago and I haven't looked back.

I appreciate this may not work for you. However just a word about expensive brand dog food, it is not always the best. I personally was not happy about putting him on Chappie but I'm afraid after weeks of horrendous runny bum, I don't care what brand it is!!

Good luck.
