Cant think of the correct term, some say "broken coated"

But it is a genuine trait to the breed...I know a few long coated ones...all 100% Rotti
In every respect he is Rottie to me, and after 30mins reading about the subject it makes sense. we werent aware he was long coated when we went to see him or I would have researched. Anyone else got a long coated?

But I may be more forgiving and use hot water and shampoo, just this once mind
He has a lovely character as shown by the great mumbling chewbacca style welcome I got this morning

What a lovely boy - he certainly looks to have settled in at your house I do hope he turns out to be the working dog you hope he will be, or alternatively that he finds a loving forever home.

I look forward to updates.

Callum your not going to like this...

prepare for ballistic..

1]

You buy a rottie for secuity work, one that has already shown aggressive tendencys....
so clearly he doenst have the right temprament for the job.

2} you know very little about the breed. Rotties dont come in two coat lenghts.
Long coat is a fault, not an option.

3] As someone who has a security company {though my dogs have nothing to do with my job they are my pets}

Have you looked into the licensing requirements needed for a working security dog plus the liabliltiy insurance requirements?

Have you passed your SIA licence?
all off the above will set you back a lot of money, your SIA alone will cost around £500

you will be liable for prosecution without them all.

I wish you had talked to people who know the breed and know the security industry before you had done this.

most security companys who require a dog handler, will provide the dog and training to handle said dog.

Do you have worked lined up for this dog? if so what company is offering it?

I have to agree with Shona I did get a little concened with this dog being used for security... as his teperament is already unsound...

Aggressive dogs and security work dont go together, as far as I now, correct me if I am wrong please!!!

Then the second concern is that if he does not make the grade you are going to pass him on to someone else.

So we have a dog with issues, who you are going to try and train for protection, then pass him on if he fails.

The boy at 15 was taking him to the park etc and setting him on peeps and pulling him back at the last mo!
the parents couldnt get near the dog they bunged him outside.
but is in need of lots of training, manners etc before he starts security/protection training
he pulls, lunges, bites, barks, bounds and air snaps at face height!!
I dont know enough about them to say he is pure Rott although this is what I have been told.
In every respect he is Rottie to me, and after 30mins reading about the subject it makes sense. we werent aware he was long coated when we went to see him or I would have researched.
If not we'll have him ship shape, socialised and trained for a lucky family.
Callum I having a bloody heart attack here.... please give this a lot of thought before you do it

Hiya Callum

WHAT ARE YOU DOING??

Shona and Jackbox are 100% right.

Have you any knowledge of the security industry?

HAVE YOU READ MY POST? THAT ALONE SHOULD MAKE YOU THINK TWICE - i am having to return a dog for not making the grade or at least get permission to rehome him.

15 months old - you didn't get him from a working person - how do you know what drives he has or has not got?

His temperament right away spells NO to me!! I have experience in the security industry and also on dogs.

Rottie - doesn't equal aggressive - they are placid, family orientated pets and you do get working strain rottis though most have to be imported now.

Your rottie is showing unsocial tendencies - he WIL NOT make a security dog!! Mine is the opposite, he has no drives to work on and improve and shows nervous signs due a bad start in life.

Please think of what you are about to do - look on security websites, see what dogs they have.

Are you aware of the dangerous dogs act and also the guard dogs act. Have you thought about insurance and specialist dog related courses you need to do?

Linda

Just a question , but surely a dog who has a tendency to bite, is not a good candidate for bite work??
