My dogs get off lead walks every day. We go on the moors, in the woods, by the river, or various recreational areas, which there are plenty of around here.

Very little walking is done in town on leads. Walking along roads would be on leads. In unfamiliar areas where I can't see the terrain for miles such as near cliffs, the dogs would be close to me, their recall is good.

My dog happy to be on the lead when we are walking on a pavement, in town etc. and anywhere appropriate. His recall is good but if he saw something of interest he would go and investigate even if it was on the other side of the road! When we are in the park, in the countryside etc. he is always off lead.
