Poor little bugger... alot of people don't derserve to have dogs.

He looks like he needs a damm good meal... way too skinny, its going to be hard if he won't or can't eat... try him on some real hard to refuse stuff, as long as he starts to eat... thats the main thing.

Fingers crossed he will recover from it all... keep us posted on his progress.

‘Romper’ the Neapolitan Mastiff is desperate for a rescue or foster home to take him in and help him out!!!

He is approx. 8years of age and has been living in a scrap yard for the past couple years. He is not wanted as they say he is ‘useless at his job’, he wanders around the yard which is very busy in a built up area.

I have just been to view him to take his photo and assess his condition, when I arrived I could hear a dog whinging, he was boxed in a small area behind the tyres, he was let out by an employee who has been doing his best as he feels sorry for the dog.

Romper is desperate and very unhappy, he needs the help of a rescue or individual who specialises in his breed and has the facilities to treat him-he has a skin complaint with secondary infection and is constantly scratching himself raw.

He was too distressed with the itching to continue any kind of assessment.

Tonight will be another ordeal for Romper.

Uncomfortable, lonely with his skin crawling.

What he would give for a bath & medication to calm his skin and a warm comfy bed, with someone who wants him.

Romper's first 24 hours:

Romper left the scrap yard yesterday at 5pm.

He slowly came out of his small enclosure and we stood with him for a while and fed him some fried chicken (prepared earlier after he ignored the doggie treats the day before).

There were plenty of spectators, they looked surprised as the gently giant slowly walked amongst the three of us, out towards the entrance and onto the pavement, he didn't even look back which seemed kind of fitting. He made an attempt to jump up into the van but had some help from behind

Romper first stop was down to the vets, he was examined and very well behaved considering the distress he was in. The good news is that he doesn't have 'cherry eye' and his eye sight seems pretty good, his ears were dirty but further down the ear canal was okay, no mites, his heart is sound, the vet had a good feel of his internal organs and couldn't detect any abnormalities, Romper seemed lame on his front leg, the vet checked the joint and it was alright.

Some skin scrapes were taken and we are waiting on the diagnosis, there is a lot of hair loss and secondary infection, he weighs only 55kg and has a lot of muscle wastage.

We left with Malaseb shampoo, ear cleaner, worming tablets, stronghold & antibiotics.

Next Romper had a bath, he stood still whilst all the grime, dead skin etc was washed away, he likes having his neck massaged and seemed a lot less itchy afterwards. He drank a big fresh bowl of water and ate all his dinner, went into his bed and dropped his head down on a pillow, ten minutes later you could hear him snoring, he slept right through the night.

He has been wormed today, out twice, he likes to walk very slowly off leash, he also likes the grass. Today he responds to his name, trots as best as he can to you when you call him, he is also very fond of Cornish pasties, the lady who works in the local café brought up a bag of goodies for him this lunch time and the guy in the local garage saw him and just brought over a pillow, for Romper's bed he said.

It will take a lot of work and dedication to restore him.

Thanks to B.A.R.K Rescue for offering their support & organising a place for Romper to go to, Tail End Of Hampton (Pet Shop) for toys and treats, also thanks to everyone else who sent messages, makes you feel a bit less alone with it all.
