Stanley is a 12 plus year old collie.(retired sheepdog)

12-07-12 Stanley is a 12 plus year old collie. He has worked sheep and been a really special companion. Sadly he is no longer able to work all day and needs to retire and we were asked to take him. He is a very kind fellow, good with other dogs and so gentle. He really deserves the special home to be loved and retire in. His hind legs are not as strong as they used to be although he still loves walks. We really hope there is a special someone out there who will give this equally special boy a wonderful retirement home with a soft bed and a whole lot of love.

6-07-12 UPDATE

Kelly and William came to help make our rescue dog's day happy. They took old Stanley out, I told them I was worried as he is VERY sad in kennels. So they both wrote a little bit about Stanley to help him find a home. William wrote "I wish he could get a home, poor Stan the man" and Kelly wrote "Stanley is a lovely dog, so cute, I wish he'd get a home soon, good luck Stan".
Stan seemed to love the children's attention, He is very good with dogs but he really is a people dog. He is 12 plus in years, but would still chase a cat if given half the chance. He was a trained sheep dog, but his legs are to weak to work all day, so now needs o retire. Please help him - kennels is no place for this kind sweet dog.

THIS DOG IS AT MANY TEARS ANIMAL RESCUE IN CARMARTHENSHIRE

What do most farmers/shepherds do when their dogs get to old to work :<
My Granddad had older fireside dogs but he only had 2 or 3 dogs at a time on his farm...

It depends. Most will retire dogs to the house, that is what we do.

Occasionally we will have a dog who is no longer able to work the hills but still has that strong desire to work, and then we find a lowland home with a friend (or a friend of a friend) where the work is easier and the dog will still be utilised and therefore have point to his/her life. The only homes we allow these dogs to go to are people we know, who in turn retire the dog to their homes when he/she is too old for lowland work.

Clearly, some farmers/shepherds do otherwise.

That is just awful - 12 years of faithful service then thrown out.
His previous owners should be ashamed.
